A New You for the New Year

Happy New Year!  What a great time to start the new year with a fresh start and a new perspective for the year.  This year think about what you would like to accomplish and write down some short- term goals for yourself.  A beautiful thing about the new year is it brings a fresh start.

I love the scripture: Isaiah 43:19 Behold I do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wildness, and rivers in the dessert.

Take this opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and start the process towards accomplishing the goals you want in becoming a better version of yourself. I would like to give you some practical tips and ideas to help you on your journey of becoming a new woman for the new year.

Evaluate Your Failures for Better Improvement

You don’t want to go into a new year the same way you left the last year. One way to change is by evaluating your thought process. When we evaluate our mistakes or things we did wrong it allows us to reflect on what we can improve upon as an individual. Sometimes coming out of past failures from the previous year can hinder you from improving or moving forward; however, take this time to evaluate what you could do better for the upcoming year, so you won’t repeat the same mistakes.  Evaluating your past failures will help you become a better individual in your new.

Set Short Term Goals and Stick with Them

When we set goals for ourselves it keeps us accountable in accomplishing them. Make sure when writing down goals for the new year that you keep it simple and straight to the point. This will help you stay on task and accomplish it faster. Short- term goals keep you focused and allows you to do achieve your goal at a quicker pace.  You don’t want to make goals for yourself that you can not keep. Writing down your goals in a journal or creating a vision board are just a couple of ways to stay on track. Creating a vision board helps you visualize that goal and makes you accountable to it. The scripture says:

Habakkuk 2:2New International Version (NIV)

“Write down the revelation

and make it plain on tablets

so that a herald[a] may run with it.

When we write the vision, we can stay on task on the goal and be accountable.

Focus on the Process

When we remain focus on the process we put our mind to it and achieve it. Don’t be that person that just writes down your goals and look at them. It’s easy to be full of enthusiasm at the beginning of the year but you must stick to whatever goals you want to achieve for the whole year. So, focus on the process itself, and develop greater commitment to achieve it. For example, if you are thinking about saving more money and perhaps putting it into a savings account then you’ll want to spend less money on items not in your budget. By doing this it will teach you discipline, help you remain focused on the process and ultimately become more successful in achieving your goal for the rest of the year.  Persistence and remaining focused and pays off along way. So, this year stay focused on the process of the goal you want to see accomplished. You can do this.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

So, everything that you do this new year just remember you can do anything if put your mind to it.

Remember to stay focused on the goal, achieve it to succeed and make improvements for becoming a better you for this year.

I’m Single and Happy for Christmas

Christmas is a great time to celebrate with family and friends. It’s also a great time to reflect on the things that have happened throughout the year. Single women don’t get discouraged on what you don’t have this Christmas season. Know that you are where you are supposed to be in this time. God has not forgotten about you.  Look at the big picture; things take time and there is a season for everything.   Enjoy your time as a single woman and be content and happy.

Often, we look at everything we don’t have and don’t celebrate the small things. I want to encourage you and let you know regardless of your status or situation you are where God wants you to be as a woman.

Enjoy Spending time with Others and have a Party

One extremely fun thing you can do is invite some of your friends over on Christmas day. You can host a pajama Christmas party and invite some of your family and friends and have them bring a favorite dish to share.  You can also have a Christmas Karaoke contest at your home. Singing your favorite Christmas songs while drinking eggnog provides good company and laughs.  Laughter is good medicine to the soul. Being around great people that make you laugh brings a positive feeling inside.   Just because you don’t have that special someone in your life doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate and enjoy your family and friends. Being around those that love you prevents loneliness from hindering you a single woman.  Be free, live, and laugh during this Christmas.

Watch your favorite Christmas Movie with Family and Friends

One enjoyable thing during the holiday season is watching your favorite Christmas movie with family and friends. My favorite classic movie is “It a Wonderful Life”.  I love watching this movie every Christmas with my family and having good laughs.  We also pop our favorite popcorn and eat our favorite take out.  Have fun and enjoy some good times and laughs with your family and friends. One fun and exciting way to make movie watching fun during Christmas time is having a movie contest. Have each person guess who knows each character of the movie and incorporate it with a prize goodie bag makes for lots of laugher and good times.

Eat Hearty

Cook one of your favorite dishes for Christmas dinner.  Ensure that you have a Christmas meal on Christmas day. Cook a new dish and break free from cooking the traditional dishes. Prepare not just a new dish for yourself, but cook something new and allow your family to try it. You’d be surprised how cooking a new dish and coming out of your norm can bring a warm feeling to the soul. Everyone loves to try something new in their lifetime. Pinterest and YouTube are great ways to find new recipes. Both Pinterest and YouTube will guide you step by step when cooking your dish. So, this Christmas bring that new dish to Christmas dinner and be proud you stepped out of your comfort zone.

Doing a Christmas Craft

Staying busy as a single Christian woman is the key. Working on craft projects will occupy your mind and your hands. Making a crafts and projects will consume your time and brings the feeling of fulfillment and satisfaction. Go to your local craft store and look for something that you’d like to make. It could be Christmas cards to give to someone, a flower centerpiece or a lovely handmade bracelet. Gather instructions for one or more Christmas crafts that interest you and shop for your supplies at your local craft store. A few of my favorites are Hobby Lobby, Joanne Fabric and Walmart. These stores have lots of magazines and ideas for new craft projects. You can work on the project up to Christmas Day. Then you’ll be able to display your special creation as décor or wear it.

Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas and remember being single doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and enjoy life during this holiday season.

I’ll leave you with this Christmas quote:

“Bless us Lord this Christmas with

Quietness of mind, teach us to be

Patient and always kind

4 Ways to Be a Joyful You During the Holidays

The holidays are a very important time to many people. December is the last month of the year and we all begin to reflect on the things we have accomplished and overcome during the year. It’s no secret how quickly time is approaching and we are almost in another year. Earlier this week I had lunch with one of my friends and she shared with me how the holidays are the best season of the year but also can be a little difficult. One suggestion I would give during the holiday season is to take time to enjoy your family, friends and be a joyful you. Don’t allow what you don’t have to hinder you from celebrating how far you’ve come this year and what is ahead for the new year. Sometimes the holiday season can be stressful, overwhelming and difficult, but remember you’ve made it this year. I would like to encourage you with 4 key principles of how to be a joyful you and enjoy the holidays with others:

1. Stop comparing your holiday season to someone else.
Oftentimes, we compare ourselves to someone else’s experiences and we forget how good God has been to us during the year. Comparison is a silent killer that destroys the identity God has created for you. Be happy and embrace who you are. Do something special for yourself such as watching your favorite holiday movie, make holiday DIY projects (a spa day at home, baking cookies or having friends over for a vision board party.) When you take your mind off others, you become happy.

2. Don’t make promises or commitments you really don’t want make.
Making promises that you can’t fulfill causes you to become stressed during the holidays. So often we make unrealistic commitments that leads to complaining and not being happy. Set small and short goals for yourself. When you set a small goal, you’re able to accomplish it faster and be more comfortable achieving it. Also, read encouraging books that will boast your confidence and esteem. One of the books I recommend to read is “A Confident Heart by: Renee Swope

3. Don’t feel the pressure to spend money that you don’t have.

One of the things that will stress you out during the holiday season is money. You can create ways to show your love and appreciation to others by making a gift basket of their favorite things or creating a picture collage. You can also invite family and friends over to cook a meal. Just remember that it’s not about the amount of money spent; it’s the love and thought.

4. Managing your time carefully.

Avoid trying to cram too many activities leading up to the holidays. Set limits and boundaries. Making a schedule of what to do during those days will prevent you from being stressed, sick and overwhelmed. This will help keep track of your time. Planning time with family and friends on days you are available will help you remain relaxed, joyful and happy to be around.

I hope these 4 steps help you for the holiday season of being a joyful you!
Remember: Jesus is the reason for Christmas and He is the greatest gift we all can have.

3 Ways to Improve Your Self Esteem Out of a Fail Relationship/ Friendship

One way we learn to value our self-esteem is shown in how we are in relationship with those around us. Sometimes when we go through a fail relationship with a friend it can also influence how we view ourselves. Coming out a fail friendship is not easy especially when you have invested yourself emotionally and spiritually in the relationship. One of the things that will help you overcome a failed friendship and improve your self-esteem is to set boundaries.

  1. Setting Boundaries: Setting boundaries will help you improve your esteem and how you view yourself and other people in a relationship. When someone comes out of a failed friendship or relationship it hinders how you view yourself in the situation. You may question if there is anything wrong with you and what you did wrong. Self-doubt hinders your identity. Setting boundaries will help you evaluate who’s in your life and will enable you to be mindful about your interactions with those coming into your life. The bible tells us to guard our hearts will all diligence.

Scripture:  Proverbs 4:23

Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

Guarding your heart does not mean to be guarded however it states that we must be careful of how we allow other people to come in our lives without boundaries.

  1. Be Open to New Relationships: Being open and developing new friendships/ relationship  can be hard sometimes when you’ve come out of a failed relationship. When you are open and willing to connect with new people this brings a form of healing and freedom. It makes room for something new. It also allows you to communicate with others in a healthy way. By doing this it allows you to become more vulnerable and transparent when entering in a new relationship/friendship.

  1. Becoming Secure: Coming out a fail relationship/ friendship can also affect how secure you become and how you engage with others. When coming out of something unhealthy it affects your self-image, causes you not to be secure in your identity and be guarded. When you are not secure in your identity it makes room for you to compare yourself to others, sabotage your self-image and have a lack of trust.  Becoming emotionally healed and secure allows you to live again. Oftentimes the heart of your mistrusting another person is a lack of trust in yourself to make wise decisions. If you want to be in a healthy friendship with someone, you’ll have to decide whether you’re willing to take the risk and then step out on faith.  Believe in yourself and trust that you will have a positive outcome each time.

I hope these 3 tips helped you to improve your esteem out of a failed relationship. Remember that starting over is good sometimes and we must let go of the old to step into the new

3 Ways to Improve Yourself Esteem Part 1

Nothing is more important than how you love and think about yourself.  Create a positive image rather than the outer appearance. When you focus more on the inside of feeling happy about yourself you will bring positivity to your environment.

Self-esteem is the way on how we view about our self and how we view things that surrounds us. It takes control of how you realize what yourself worth is.

Create a Goal   Working towards a goal and writing it down will help you value the way you see yourself and how others may view you.  Start writing daily affirmations to yourself and speaking positive things. For example, you can write words that may describe who you are as a person and find a positive word and write it down. This will help boost up your confidence of who you are and your self-image.  Also, it can be a hobby about which you are passionate about or an idea you may want to turn into a business for income. Not only you should be proud of accomplishing your goal always reward yourself when accomplishing it. This will help you boost up your esteem and love the way you are. Reward yourself with a favorite ice cream or desert this make you feel special and appreciated of who you are.

Surround Yourself with Positive Relationships  Surrounding yourself with positive people helps how your self-worth is. Sometimes when we surround ourselves around negative people joy and sense of happiness leaves because of their negative energy,  negative thoughts, and low self- esteem. Check your close circle of friends and family and evaluate are they good for you in your life. Surrounding yourself with positive relationships can help boost up your esteem and self-worth. People that are positive in your life with help you come against negative thought patterns and breaking cycles by speaking positive words. Joining friendly community groups with common interest will create a positive atmosphere. Spending time in quiet time writing in a journal  and reading self image books can also help boost your self esteem.

Love Yourself     Loving yourself is a key essential of boosting your self- esteem. If you don’t love who you are and embrace who you are created to be no one will. Everything starts with a thought and how you view who you are. So next time when you look at yourself in the mirror tell yourself how beautiful and wonderful you are. This goes back to step one in the beginning words of affirmations and speaking positively to yourself. When you have a day that is down look back at those positive words you wrote down and speak those words over yourself. Words carry power and it up to you to create a positive atmosphere to build your self- esteem.

I hope these 3 steps help you in this article and know you are in a process of becoming a better you.

I leave you with this quote:

~~Confidence ~~

Is the only key.

I can’t think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself

4 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day as a Christian Single Woman

Hello Beautiful Woman!  I would like to encourage you this Valentine’s Day to stay strong and know God has a perfect plan for your life. Right now you may be single but He still know what he is doing in you.  One thing  is that you can spread the love of Jesus 365 days of the year. Sometimes we as Christian women get caught of the status of being single but miss out of enjoying the single years. He is everything you need for Him to be in your life and in this season.

Treat yourself

It doesn’t mean that if you have no one in your life you can’t enjoy you. God created you in His image and you are beautiful. No matter if your status is single right now you are loved . So many times we are  looking for love somewhere else but don’t know how to love and treat ourselves.   For example, you can bake your favorite dessert and cook a delicious meal. You can  watch one of your favorite comedy movie.  Treat yourself to your favorite  food, snack and outing.  Going to try new things will make you feel joyful and excited. By doing this it will help you learn to enjoy life and treat yourself.

Spend time with other Christian single women.

Spending time with other women will help you to not feel alone, depressed, or unvalued. You can go over one another home to and play games, cook delicious  dishes,  have a movie night watching  girlie comedy or a pamper day. Also, you can write words of encouragement on a card to pass out to one of your friends to cheer  them up. One year I decided to get a group of friends together and have a Valentine’s Day dinner. We passed out cards and gifts to each other and inside the card there were words of affirmation.  This will really help you express the gratitude of love.

 Have a pamper evening.

If you don’t have the money to go out you can always use resources at home and online for ideas. Do a DIY spa day at home. You can set up your home or apartment like a spa. For example, You can set up your living room area with aroma therapy candles, soft instrumental music and do a manicure and pedicure. Also, you can make flavor water using fruits and lemons for that relaxing time.  Pinterest has many recipes and tips on how you can do a spa day at home.

Do a worship evening.

Worship is a beautiful thing and it connects us with the Father  God in Heaven.  You can create a worship atmosphere  with your favorite worship music. Another thing you can do is journal while in worship and write love letters to Jesus and pour out your love unto Him. Jesus loves us and He is a healer of our broken heart. By entering worship it allows you to have joy, love and peace. Worship is also the key to communing with  God and getting back in the right standing and relationship with Him. Pouring out your love on Him will refresh  you in His presence.

Be encouraged and know that God has a perfect plan for your life.

God proved His love on the cross. He hung, and shed His blood for you because He loves you!

The Beautiful Aroma

She breezed in and sat down in the school cafeteria at Governors State University. It was at that moment when a woman next to her complimented her on her sweet fragrance. Now this woman was dressed casually, but her scent was sweet and lovely.  She was in her early 20’s waiting in the cafeteria for the next class. The person who was sitting next to her was drawn to her because of her sweet smelling scent. What I am saying is we must have that same sweet smelling fragrance when we are representing Christ. When we are representing Christ, we are to draw others by living a lifestyle of purity, holiness, and meditating on His word. So many times, we as humans allow our personal life to interfere with our fragrance which should represent God. If we have a bad attitude one day or are rude towards someone, this can mess up our fragrance unto the Lord.  This will bring a stinky and unpleasant scent. Imagine yourself going days and days without taking a shower. How would you smell? You would probably smell yucky and stinky, right? Well sometimes this is how our attitudes and character are displayed. The lady at the cafeteria was drawn by the sweet-smelling fragrance. That is how we must be when we are going out; we are being a representation of Christ. We must draw others in by loving them where they are and being a sweet aroma like Jesus. Jesus draws through His fragrance of love, compassion, and hope for the hopeless.  I am saying just like Jesus, we must continue to be like Him and have a sweet pleasant fragrance.  Be blessed 🙂
